Living In The Place Where Christ Is!

Colossians 3:1 ¶ If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

Literal Greek: If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is;  Sitting on the right hand of God.

The verse really reads “seek the things which are above, this being the place where Christ is.

This is the first clause of the sentence.

The second clause reads like this. In this place, Christ is sitting at the right hand of God.

The emphasis is however in our living in the place where Christ is.

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ (IS).

This clause is in Greek condition of the first class. There are three classes in Greek grammar which are applied to sentence clauses.

The condition of the first class assumes something to be true, a fact, and an assumed reality.

Really the verse should read:

(Since) then (you have been) risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ (IS).

Paul is assuming that every Christian is automatically living his or her life in the heavenly places where Christ IS.

Not to do that is ignorance and missing the mark.

2 Set your affection (phroneo) on things above, not on things on the earth.

Phroneo talks about our mental focus, goals, vision, planning. In verse one with our hearts we must seek to be where Christ is.

In verse 2 with our minds we envision and plan and strategize within the patterns and mysteries of God where He Is, and not those of the earth.

Though we serve a risen Christ.
