Jas 1:8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
Greek Paraphrase: It’s impossible for a double souled man to firmly take a stand in all of his ways.
Jas 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Greek paraphrase: Purify your hearts, you double souled people!
Yesterday, I received a significant breakthrough in my life.
Double mindedness, or as the Bible more accurately calls it, being double souled, is a huge problem in the church.
I have suffered from this disease all of my Christian life.
Remember that man is spirit, soul and body.
Our spirits must our strongest bodily part if we are to be effective for God.
The soul is made up of our mind, will and emotion.
Our spirits are the organ which house the Holy Spirit.
Our spirits pick up the testimony or evidence which the Holy Spirit gives.
But it’s the function of our souls to recognize the Spirit’s voice. This is what our mind, in submission to the voice of the Spirit does.
The mind tells our will to obey the voice of God which it has recognized, and our will pulls our bodies to obey that voice
But a double minded man is in fact functioning with two separate souls.
His mind is sometimes submitted to the voice of the Spirit and appropriately does what the Spirit tells him.
Other times his mind is submitted to his fleshly agendas and he end up functioning outside of the Spirit’s voice.
Fruit bearing and success with God comes in proportion to pin point accuracy in discerning and obeying the Spirits voice.
Every person who comes into a relationship with God comes with the disorder of double mindedness.
A lot of it comes from our inability to trust God, so we end up trusting ourselves.
Or we don’t trust God because we think that we know better than Him.
For thirty four years God has freed me from this illness.
I can say that as to my rational, and conscious thinking, being doubled souled is something that God has freed me from.
Yet, I have seen myself responding angrily to things that God tells me to do .
Why, God?
Bill Gothard was a conference speaker in the 80’s.
He said that anger is an indication of unyieled rights to God. Boy is that correct!
Whenever we don’t want to surrender something to God, we become angry.
Ps 37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
Mt 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Gothard went on to to say that the opposite to anger is meekness.
Meekness is not weakness.
The meek man is one who has yielded his rights to God, and by doing that He inherits the all that God has.
Surrendering the little that we have to God entrusts Him to give us everything, for He can trust that we will yield back to Him what is not of Him. But the unyielded and angry man holds tightly on to the little box of his rights, blinded to the immensity of all that God wants to give to him which surrounds his box.
I’ve been feeling so angry recently.
I wondered why if I am free from double mindedness and have yielded my right to God, where did it come from?
When I prayed with my wife yesterday, God revealed the mystery.
Double mindedness or being two souled is not only a malady of the conscious, but of the subconscious and unconscious mind.
I realized that by the power of God I must cast off and put off all traces of being two souled in the sub and conscious mind.
Yesterday, I had to take these to the cross and the blood of Christ.
I finally hit a pure connection with the presence of Jesus in my spirit. Until then, I struggled with discerning the will of God and going with that will . Double mindedness in my sub and unconscious mind were waging battle against me, and I would be tossed to and fro
A huge battle has been won!
2Co 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity <572> that is in Christ.
2Co 1:12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity <572> and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.
Mt 6:22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single <573>, thy whole body shall be full of light.
Lu 11:34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single <573>, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
Haplous and haplotes are a noun and an adjective. These are Strong Words # 572 and # 573.
They are the opposite to being double minded.
The haplous man is one who lives in the singleness, simplicity, integrity, wholeness and soundness of one who is freed from double mindedness in his conscious, sub and unconscious mind.
He is in pure contact with the will of God and the voice of the Holy Spirit.
He has a pure connection to the God who lives within Him. He is single in his soul, rather than double.
2Co 8:2 How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality <572>.
2Co 9:11 Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness <572>, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.
2Co 9:13 Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal <572> distribution unto them, and unto all men;
It’s interesting that liberality and generosity is also the word , haplous.
God is liberal and generous.
The haplous man is liberal because He lives in “ live single wire” contact with the Spirit of God, who is ultimately generous.
He who refrains from tithing under the guise of its not in the NT, must check out if he is double souled. I suspect that his real reason for not giving is his “Siamese Soul.”
