The Faith of Abraham
Romans 4:12 And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk (Greek: march as a soldier ) in the steps (footprints) of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.
The faith of Abraham is a military walk after the voice of the Holy Spirit.
Do you follow God’s voice as a soldier does the commands of a general?
This is the key to true success.
Romans 4:17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead (corpses), and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
Abraham once and for all, as something which had been settled, believed God.
He agreed with what God said about him and not what circumstances dictated.
Who is this God whom Abraham believed in?
Abraham believed in the God whose nature is to continuously give life to dead things which are so dead that they are corpse like.
This way it’s God who does the work in you and not you in your own strength.
What situation do you have in your life which is as hopeless as a corpse?
Rejoice, for its right where God enjoys working the most. God loves to work with dead things!
Abraham also believed the God who continuously calls the things which are not, just as if they are. The word “as” is a very interesting. It means in the same manner as, or having the same content.
So Abraham believed the God who calls the yet not existing things as if they had the same makeup or content of fully existing ones.
Romans 4:18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
Abraham, with all hope gone, believed upon a foundation or structure made up of hope, that upon this foundation he might become the father of many nations, in relation to the voice of God which told him that he would.
Do you place your walk with God upon a foundation of hope, and the expectation of what He will do?
Romans 4:19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead ( now in a permanent state of a corpse) , when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness ( the corpse-likeness) of Sara’s womb:
It says that Abraham did not consider, or focus his understanding on the functions of his own body which wrtr now in a state of a corpse and also the corpse likeness of the womb of Sarah.
20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong (Receiving God’s power) in faith, giving glory to God;
In the view of what God has promised him, Abraham did not vacillate between two completely opposite outcomes but was strengthened knowing God’s ability and knew that the only outcome would be the one which God promised him.
What outcome do you believe for, yours or God’s?
21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
Persuaded means to be fully carried.
Abraham allowed himself to be fully carried into the opinion that what God promised him, He was able and capable to fully complete.
