More Nuggets From The Gospel of Mark

Mark 1:27-Mark 2:8

Mark 1:27And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.

Commandeth A combination of two Greek words; one of them meaning to be over and the second one to set, ordain and appoint.  Combining these two words, we see the vast authority that the believer has been given by the Lord Jesus Christ, over the demonic.

With the use of the Name of the Lord Jesus we overwhelmingly set, ordain, and appoint the destinies of the demonic in our ministries and personal lives.

Also, as I taught last time, the greatest authority that we have against the demonic in scriptural commanding is through the binding the enemy and the anointing of Jesus as He works through our lives.

Genuine scriptural binding is found within a believer that has every major source of sin and bondage dealt with by the cross, and has been brought forth into a state of liberty and wholeness. The enemy has been bound in this believer’s life because there are no open doors to the demonic, and nothing is left in common between the individual and the demonic.  Please look at what the apostle Paul has to say in Eph 4:27 about binding.

Ephesians 4:27  Neither give place to the devil.

Paraphrase: “Don’t have any runways on your life where the devil can fly in and land upon you.

Mark 3:11  And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.

They saw him: A very powerful term!  This word is the word for a “movie theatre.”  When we go to the movies we are absorbed for a few hours with the ongoing scenes that flash before our eyes. When the demonic behold the ongoing power and works of Jesus as a movie, they fall down before Him.  The Strong’s concordance says it all “to fall forwards, fall down, and prostrate one’s self before, in homage or supplication: at one’s feet”

Our lives must be a living theater of the glory and the power of the Son of God so that people, demons, and angels can behold His glory, and fall down before Him.

Let us look at another example from the demoniac of Gadarenes.

Mark 5:6  But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,

He saw  To “instinctively know” Jesus. The demonic must instinctively know Jesus through our lives.  Then they will worship in obedience and submit to our ministry in the Lord.

Worshipped:  To kneel and do homage out of deep reverence. The result of the demonic recognizing the presence of the Lord.

7  And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

What have I to do with thee: There is nothing in common between you and us Jesus, therefore have you come to torture us?

Mark 1:29And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

30   But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.

Fever- Greek from fire

31  And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.

And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up;  Greek: “Jesus having approached, raised her up.  This is always Jesus’ nature. Wherever He comes, He always raises up.

She ministered unto them.  She ministered to Jesus according to her calling and gifting.  The Lord requires from us that once we are raised up from our sins and bondage, to answer His calling made up of our ministries, which in turn are made up of our spiritual gifts.

32   And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.

“Demonized”

Mark 1:34 And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.

I Cor 12:9  To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

Two of the prevalent words for healing in the New Testament are therapy as found in Mark 1:34 and “instantaneous cure.”

in 1 Corinthians 12:9.  In his ministry, we Jesus healing people both through instantaneous cures, and therapeutic healing. The scriptures do not give us the specifics of what Jesus did especially in the areas in which the word “therapy” is used. I would like to see instantaneous cures for everyone that I pray for!

On many occasions we see the Lord ministering to people through us over a number of meetings or sessions.  I believe that this is the healing ministry of “therapy.” There are several things that the therapeutic ministry of Jesus does.

For one, it demonstrates the ongoing love of Jesus to the recipient of the Lord’s ministry.  Secondly, it gives the recipient and understanding of what brought on the sickness and demonic bondage.  Finally, the Lord’s therapeutic healing becomes a school of ministry for those that minister in it.

The ministry of instantaneous cures can be distinguished more as “a miracle or a signs and wonders ministry.

Signs and wonders are the same miracle seen from two different angles.  In the case of an instantaneous cure, the sign authenticates the minister as one that is sent by the Lord, while the wonder is what draws those beholding the instantaneous cure into glorifying and believing in the Lord.  Both ministries of healing are needed.

35  And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed

In the morning (The third watch) 3:00AM- 6:00AM

A great while before day (Literally) While it was still night.

39And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils.

He preached: Scriptural preaching must always occur with the anointing, authority, and power of God needed to cause people to listen, heed, and repent of their sins and believe in the things of the kingdom of God.

Cast out devils: The casting out of demons is a sure sign that the minister is operating in the kingdom of God.  Let us look at this further.

Luke 11:20  But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.

The kingdom of God is come upon you.   The kingdom of God has arrived and occupied, thus casting out Satan’s earthly kingdom every time that a demon is cast out.

Let us look at this in more detail.  The moment that a demon is cast out is the same moment in which the kingdom of heaven reigns supreme and unchallenged upon the earth.

This is very important because in a legal sense the kingdom of earth is under the power of Satan.  Until a person becomes born again, he or she is under the legal power of the devil.  This is because at the fall of Adam and Eve we relinquished legal authority to the enemy.

1 John 5:19  And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

Greek: The whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

What does the kingdom of God consists of? We find the answer in Matthew 10: 7-8.

Mat 10:7  And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

8   Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

Verse eight clearly defines for us the works of the kingdom of heaven.  A king or queen always rules unchallenged and unrestrained in the fullness of their kingdom.  At every point that God’s kingdom is being manifested, He rules unchallenged upon a hostile and unfriendly territory, the earth.  In the same way, Satan rules unrestrained upon the earth, as long as God’s kingdom is not being manifested through His servants as they work by the rhema word.

Hebrews 9:14  How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Matthew 5:16  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven

A dead work is ministry without the rhema word, or the voice of the Spirit, while a good work is ministry coming forth out of a rthema word.

A good work brings forth the kingdom of God, while a dead work may bring the passing glory of God but only for a season.

Coming back to Matthew 10:7-8;  At the moment of time that the kingdom of heaven is displayed through the healing of the sick, the cleansing of the lepers (today, spiritually speaking it signifies the moment that a person becomes born again, or could refer to aids, cancer and so forth) raising the dead, casting out the devils, and the free and sacrificial giving of our resources ( the opposite to the prosperity message that needs money thrown at it to make it work), is a time which the kingdom heaven arrives, occupies, and reigns unhindered upon Satan’s dominated earthly kingdom.

The signs of the kingdom of heaven serve as the establishment of the Lord’s temporary beachhead within a vast territory that is utterly hostile to Him. At any given moment that the believer displays the signs of the kingdom of heaven he or she establishes a beachhead of unchallenged and unrestrained dominion by God. The more often that the believer operates the signs of the kingdom is the more often that this beachhead is established.

Secondly, we must also recognize that the beachhead itself is the believer.  In the OT, it was the Lord’s will to set up His kingdom physically on the land of Canaan through the hands of the Jews.  This is why He demanded that the land would be exhaustively cleared out.

In the New Testament, the Lord has no physical land to set up His kingdom, per say.  The believer in the dispensation of the church is God’s land, and in proportion to how cleared out the lands of his or her body, soul, and spirit are, will dictate the type and quality of beachhead that the Lord will be able establish through each of them.

Leviticus 20:24  But I have said unto you, Ye shall inherit their land, and I will give it unto you to possess it, a land that floweth with milk and honey: I am the LORD your God, which have separated you from other people.

Luke 21:19  In your patience possess ye your souls.

Mark 1:40  And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

As we go ahead on through Mark, we see that in every person instance of healing performed by Jesus, the recipient had a faith level in which they knew that they would be healed. Let us look at what the leper confesses to Jesus from the Greek scriptures.

Greek paraphrase:  “Lord Jesus, I know that if it is your will to make me clean, you have resident within you the dunamis power that will make me at once and permanently clean.

Can you see the faith of the leper?  This is what the Lord Jesus terms as mustard seed faith;(small as grain of mustard, but yet a pure grain of faith)

Unbelief, which is defined as a “void of faith”, and is termed as disobedience, is the absence of having that one grain of pure faith.

41  And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.

Secondly, with every work of the kingdom of heaven performed by the Lord, it done in the imperative mood.

The imperative mood is the mood of command.  All ministries originating with the kingdom of heaven are only fully effective as they are executed with the authority of the kingdom, released through our commands as based upon the rhema word of God.  Commanding the devil without the revelation of the rhema word is fruitless and scorned by him.  Likewise, executing the rhema word without the backing authority of our commands is only partially effective.

I have noticed within my healing and deliverance ministry an immediate difference in results between simply speaking forth the rhema word versus commanding it.

We can see a clear example of this in the Lord’s Prayer.  Most of us misunderstand the Lord’s intentions within the prayer that He gave to us. This prayer is shock full of “aorist/ imperatives,” verbs, which are commands that bring immediate results.

Luke 11:2  And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

Because you Father, live and work in the heavenly realm, we command that your name (all that you represent and stand for) be separated from all that is common in this world, so that it can be clearly seen for all that it is.

We command your kingdom to come!

We command your will to be done!

In exactly the same way upon the earth as you have already executed them in heaven.

3 Give us day by day our daily bread.

Our bread that suffices for the day (not the prosperity message) we command it to be given to us daily.

4  And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

We command our sins to be released and sent away from us so that their effect no longer hurts us; for we constantly release and send away the debts that all have with us.

We command not be led into a place where we will be enticed to fall into sin.

We command to be delivered from Satan and from all that is hurtful and harmful.

Mark 1:42  And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.

Once again we see three uses of the Greek aorists in Mark 1:42. (The aorist is accomplished events in the time line of ongoing history)

Jesus spoke (an accomplished event in history). The leprosy left (an accomplished event in history). The man was cleansed (an accomplished event in history).  Herein, we see the perfect faith of the Lord Jesus.  The minister of God must work at this same level faith.  As I have taught before, the rhema word of the Spirit has the faith that belongs to God so that His rhema word always comes to pass.  The minister’s faith based upon God’s rhema word must always be in the aorist tense.  Jesus gave me the rhema word, I command it once, and the results occur at once. (Whether seen or not seen in the natural it must be believed.)

Mark 2:1 And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.

It was noised:  It was heard.

2 And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.

3  And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.

4  And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.

5  When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

In the account above their works manifested the faith that these four had. Look with me at what James has to say about this aspect of faith.

James 2:18  Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

Greek paraphrase: My faith is a tree that springs and up and grows, as I do my works in the Lord, which are its roots.  If I don’t step out in faith to do the works of the Lord, I will never develop a root system for my faith to grow, and the faith that I speak about and confess is false.

The works of faith of these four was demonstrated in that they pulled off (probably with tremendous labor) at least a part of the roof (probably Peter’s home.)  Then they had to carry this person through a huge number of people, up the roof, and then down to where Jesus was.  These four had to know without a shadow of a doubt that Jesus would heal their friend. The pure grain of mustard seed faith!

Mark 2:5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

Verse five tells us that Jesus saw their faith.  This is the same Greek word for “instinctively knowing.”  Whenever Jesus instinctively sees a grain of pure faith in us, He always acts.

Thy sins be forgiven thee. The bondage is broken and your sins are released and sent far away from you so that they no longer afflict you with paralysis.  The Lord Jesus’ command for the forgiveness of sins in this case is in the Greek perfect tense.  The Greek perfect tense is an aorist or an accomplished event but with effects or impact that lasts forever.

Mark 2:8  And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?

Perceived:  The word for perceive is defined as having a thorough, correct, and precise knowledge of an object, so that by our thorough understanding of it we can grasp it and make it our own.  Jesus’ command of spiritual gifts was so complete and the clarity of the Father’s voice was so precise within Him, that His discernment of the rhema word was thorough.

We must minister in the same thorough, correct and precise knowledge of the rhema word.  It is required that we accurately discern a malady as caused by a generational or habitual sin, a demon, or just a simple sickness.

For example, there are some occasions in which physical sicknesses are directly caused by the demonic, and unless the demonic is taken care of, the person will never be healed, no matter how much faith we have.

Matthew 12:22  Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.

Luke 6:18  And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.

Let us look at another example of mustard seed faith and its powerful effects.

Mark 5:34  And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

Thy faith hath made thee whole: The Greek tells us; Daughter, the faith that belongs (not to Jesus) to you, has saved you.  To save is not just to become “born again.”  It is defined as being rescued and delivered from all that is harmful to us, be it sin, sickness, or demonic oppression.

Once that we are rescued and delivered from this condition, then we are restored to the condition that the Lord desires for us to have.  This is the full scope of salvation.

The faith of the woman is what saved her!  Secondly, the saving accomplished by the woman’s faith is in the perfect tense!  As we just learned, the perfect tense is an accomplished event with an eternal impact. The pure grain of faith that saved the woman was her absolute knowledge that Jesus, without a shadow of a doubt, would heal her.  Listen to the woman’s confession.

Mark 5:28  For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.

I know that at that future moment of time that I touch his clothes, is that same future moment that I will without a shadow of doubt be healed.”

Mark 5:30  And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

Knowing: As with the word perceived in Mark 2:8; Jesus knew in this same exact and through knowledge of the rhema word that dunamis power had gone out of Him.

The woman’s faith released the dunamis power of God!  A pure grain of faith always releases the dunamis power of God!

Mark 5:34  And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

Go in peace and be whole: “ Greek: Depart into peace or into a state of “Shalom.”  The peace that the Lord commands is the peace that now is part of the woman’s life because she has been made whole and has no more sickness or bondage within her to afflict her.

Wholeness and liberty in the Lord always produces a state of peace within the believer because there is an absence of pain and sin to torment.  Jesus uses the imperative, or the voice of command, as is His custom in executing all the works of the kingdom.  Here, He tells the woman, you faith has eternally rescued you from all the evil and harmful and caused the flow of blood.  As the result of your faith, I now command you to go and live out the rest of your life in peace (Shalom) because of the liberty and wholeness that your faith obtained for you, by being forevermore healthy from this scourge.

It is important for us to see something else about Jesus’ ministry.  He ministers in a two-fold manner.  First, He restored the symptom back to God’s order of wholeness.  In this case, the symptom was the woman’s issue of blood.  We then see the Lord commanding the woman to leave from Him and live in a permanent state of shalom or wholeness. Here we the Lord’s ministry to all that caused the issue of blood to occur in the first place.

Mark 4:39  And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Peace, be still:  Greek:  Be silenced, and your activity be muzzled and held in check. The silencing has to do with the outward violence of the waves.  The muzzling has to do with all the activity that ignited the waves to act up in the first place. Hence, “peace, be still” Once again we see the Lord commanding a two-fold restoration, first to the symptom, and then to the root of the problem!
