Your private devotions are vital to your public ministry.
Particularly, in the early days, when my relationship with the Lord Jesus was blossoming, my private prayer times became a rich source of learning how the Holy Spirit moves and speaks.
The Holy Spirit is a Person who dwells in you.
Though, He is supernatural, and functions more by faith than what we do, while we attempt calculate and figure out things, the Holy Spirit still displays many traits of a Person.
He speaks, He feels, He warns, and is also happy.
The Holy Spirit lives in your spirit, but speaks in subtle, still, and quiet ways.
Look at the account of Elijah, the prophet.
1 KING 19: 11 AND HE SAID, “GO FORTH, AND STAND UPON THE MOUNT BEFORE THE LORD.” AND BEHOLD, THE LORD PASSED BY, AND A GREAT AND STRONG WIND RENT THE MOUNTAINS AND BROKE IN PIECES THE ROCKS BEFORE THE LORD, BUT THE LORD WAS NOT IN THE WIND; AND AFTER THE WIND AN EARTHQUAKE, BUT THE LORD WAS NOT IN THE EARTHQUAKE.
12 AND AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE A FIRE, BUT THE LORD WAS NOT IN THE FIRE; AND AFTER THE FIRE A STILL SMALL VOICE.
By far, He is most effectively heard in a quiet and still environment.
The habit of personal devotions must be created, cultivated, pursued, and maintained there.
Personal devotions cannot be managed from your car, on the way to work.
EXODUS 26: 34 AND THOU SHALT PUT THE MERCY SEAT UPON THE ARK OF THE TESTIMONY IN THE MOST HOLY PLACE.
35 AND THOU SHALT SET THE TABLE OUTSIDE THE VEIL, AND THE CANDLESTICK OPPOSITE THE TABLE ON THE SIDE OF THE TABERNACLE TOWARD THE SOUTH; AND THOU SHALT PUT THE TABLE ON THE NORTH SIDE.
NU 7:89 AND WHEN MOSES HAD GONE INTO THE TABERNACLE OF THE CONGREGATION TO SPEAK WITH HIM, THEN HE HEARD THE VOICE OF ONE SPEAKING UNTO HIM FROM THE MERCY SEAT THAT WAS UPON THE ARK OF TESTIMONY, FROM BETWEEN THE TWO CHERUBIMS; AND HE SPOKE UNTO HIM.

The desert tabernacle shown on this photo, is symbolic of our human bodies.
The outer court, or the area where the grass and dirt are, represent our flesh.
The Holy Place with the menorah candle, the table of showbread, and the altar of incense, is representative of our soul.
The Holy of Holies which is the smallest room behind the curtain, is figurative of our spirit.
The only item in the Holy of Holies is the Ark of the Testimony from where the Holy Spirit gives testimony or witness of what He says and does.
This occurs in our spirits.
There are no lights in the most Holy Place.
The only light is what comes from God’s glory.
The menorah candle, the only source of light, is in the Holy Place, the area of our soul.
It is separated by a curtain from the Most Holy Place.
Thus our prayer devotions must be held in the dark and quiet place of our spirits, in a private and quiet surroundings.
Because the work of the Holy Spirit, who dwells in our spirits is to provide testimony or evidence of what He does, our private devotions become a treasure chest of how the Holy Spirit moves and speaks in us.
But the evidence and testimony which He provides can only be heard accurately, from quiet place.
The countless journeys into the mysterious and supernatural workings of God in your spirit, are the tools that you will take public ministry when you pray or prophesy to someone.
God will show you short cuts in the Spirit, and sources of His anointing where breakthroughs will occur.
It’s all fascinating.
But you must go into the darkness and stillness of the Holy of Holies where the only artifacts are the still small voice of God, the testimony or evidence of how He works in you, and the light of His glory.
Cheers.
