Why are Christians getting attacked by the devil?
This should not be the norm because Jesus Christ defeated him and took back all that had been relinquished through sin.
This issue is complicated and has many facets.
We can only take a small bite into this big mud pie.
At the center though, is obedience to God.
Obedience to the Holy Spirit is the key to the breakthrough.
Many in the church have a feeble understanding of what obedience to the Lord Jesus means.
GAL 5L25 IF WE LIVE BY THE SPIRIT, LET US ALSO WALK BY THE SPIRIT.If we admit that we know Christ, then we automatically live in the Spirit.
And if we live in the Spirit, then we must walk in the Spirit.
To walk, is not what people imagine.
Walk, is the Greek word stoicheo.
This is not your regular stroll through the park.
It is a military march.
RO 4:12 AND THE FATHER OF CIRCUMCISION TO THOSE NOT ONLY OF CIRCUMCISION, BUT ALSO TO THOSE FOLLOWING IN THE STEPS (STOICHEO) OF THE FAITH WHICH OUR FATHER ABRAHAM HAD WHILE IN UNCIRCUMCISION.GA 6:16 AND AS MANY AS WALK (STOICHEO) ACCORDING TO THIS RULE, PEACE AND MERCY BE UPON THEM, AND UPON THE ISRAEL OF GOD.PHP 3:16 NEVERTHELESS, TO WHAT WE HAVE ATTAINED, LET US WALK (STOICHEO) BY THE SAME RULE, BEING OF THE SAME MIND.Note, that Abraham used steps of faith when he describes walking with God.
It is one step after another.
In the last two verses, stoicheo suggests following a set of rules.
Thus, the process of walking after the Spirit is not a haphazard experience.
We must march behind our loving general, The Holy Spirit.
You either obey the general, or you are out of line.
If we claim to walk in the Spirit we have no choice but to lovingly obey Him.
Satan was given the authority to rule on earth when Adam and Eve relinquished their authority through sin.
The devil’s authority inflicts death, sickness, and pain.
Jesus Christ, by what He accomplished on the cross took that authority back from him.
But the umbrella of protection that Christ covers us from Satan, is an umbrella of obedience to Him.
When people disobey the Holy Spirit they move out from under the umbrella’s protection.
Satan is the keenest of lawyers.
And as a lawyer, he is a legalist and a strategist.
The astute lawyer, the devil hits us. We have stepped back into his rain. We have given him the right to attack, when we disobey God.
EPH 4:27 NEITHER GIVE ANY PLACE TO THE DEVIL.To give any place, is to build an airport runway on yourself for the devil to land on.
If you are disobeying God you are creating the landing strip.
This is for Christians and non-Christians
Let’s end with this verse.
EPH 2:2 IN WHICH YOU ONCE WALKED ACCORDING TO THE AGE OF THIS WORLD, ACCORDING TO THE PRINCE OF THE POWER OF THE AIR, THE SPIRIT WHICH IS NOW WORKING IN THE SONS OF DISOBEDIENCE.Disobedience is stubbornness, hard headedness, and defiance to God.
This verse not only points out non-Christians.
‘It refers to anyone who stubbornly disobeys God.
Working, is the word energize.
Anyone who has the habit of disobeying God energizes the devil to function in their lives.
This is why the devil is having such a heyday with attacking Christians.
The church has little understanding, and rarely values, what it means to lovingly, but militarily, obey the Holy Spirit.
Until Christians put into practice this type of obedience, the attacks will not stop.
