What To Do In A Church of Complete Strangers?
We have friends who complain to us about these awkward moments, when it happens to them.
“People were just staring at me,” one complaint goes.
Or, “Everybody was so cold!”
Or,“No one reached out to me or greeted me!”
Or, “That is how Christians always are!”
Or even, “This is why I never go to church!”
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN IN A CHURCH OF COMPLETE STRANGERS?…
Do you quit going to that church?
This is the easy way out, and it’s not what God wants you to do.
For years, Sunday church was boring.
This is because I study the Bible in the Greek, utilizing lexicons, commentaries and word studies.
The pastor’s sermon, frequently is at a level below my studies.
I’d complain to Mary who would warn me in return with, “Pride comes before the fall!”
One day the Lord told me, “The reason why you get bored, is because you go to church to receive, rather than to give.
IT DAWNED UPON ME THAT CHURCH WAS A HOSPITAL FILLED WITH HURTING PEOPLE…
Most who attend church are there because everything else has failed them.
I knew how to pray for people, and decided to join the prayer teams at the churches which we were attending in Miami.
Though I had grown up as a stutterer, the Lord told me, don’t wait for people to greet you, you go to them.
Those who have stuttered, or have grown up with a stutterer, know that they live in continual anxiety and panic.
So this was a frightful leap of faith for me.
But then I realized that the grace of God was present. When I did this, I never have had a problem speaking.
WHEN I WAS ON THE PRAYER TEAM AND NO ONE WOULD COME TO GET PRAYER, THE HOLY SPIRIT WOULD POINT OUT SOMEONE WHO WAS SITTING AND TELL ME TO GO AND ASK THEM IF THEY NEEDED PRAYER…
I discovered that ninety five percent of the people wanted prayer.
The Holy Spirit told me to never wait for someone to come to me, but that I needed to go to them.
People became so grateful that I greeted them when no one else did.
A number of relationships that I enjoy today, began by simply doing this.
Here is a secret ministry bonus that I am going to bless you with!
Ninety percent of the good Christian friendships which I enjoy today, we did not meet casually, through small talk after church, or in a Bible study.
They are people whom I prayed for or ministered to in the Holy Spirit.
There is something special about getting deep into a person’s hurts or problems with the love and the healing power of the Holy Spirit.
This creates an instant bond between you and that person, that lasts forever.
When I arrive at a church or meeting of complete strangers, I immediately introduce myself and start reaching out.
You will be amazed at how many incredible things the Lord does.
God may even give me a word for a person while I am introducing myself and they get extra blessed.
It’s not that people are cold.
Many who are coming to church are hurting and insecure.
Most will not reach out.
They have too many walls up.
You need to be the one to do it.
WHEN YOU GO TO CHURCH GIVE OUT, INSTEAD OF RECEIVING…
You will be amazed at all the incredible things which happen!
